Colonial and Early America Deeds and Curios collection, 1681-1935

This is an artificial collection of deeds for property issued to various individuals during the American colonial period through the early 20th century. Ancestors of the recipients later relocated to Kansas, bringing the deeds with them. The deeds are issued by colonial governors or other officials from Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Maryland, and Connecticut. The collection also has several 19th century deeds for lands in Kansas, during both the territorial and statehood periods, awarded to such individuals as Guilford Dudley, J. H. Haid, and John F. Doane. Also included are deeds for Shawnee County, 1856-1876. Some folders contain correspondence of Aaron Burr, dated 1780-1826, concerning personal matters, New York politics, and United States politics. The curios include general land records dated 1857-1891, tax receipts of C. B. Brace, Mark Twain wooden nickels, and miscellaneous telegraph and railroad bonds.

Aaron Burr Jr. (February 6, 1756 – September 14, 1836) was an American politician and lawyer. A Founding Father, he served as the third vice president of the United States during President Thomas Jefferson's first term from 1801 to 1805. His role in helping form the nation, however, would be overshadowed when he killed fellow Founding Father Alexander Hamilton in an 1804 duel.
